Good afternoon friends! So after my post on Robin’s Bite about the Inside of my Fridge, I had a few people ask me how I meal plan and shop for my groceries.

Here’s the Breakdown of my Process:

I typically spend Sunday evenings planning out my meals for the week and my grocery list. I come up with an ingredient list for the dinner meals and then move on to what we will need for breakfast, lunch and snacks throughout the week.

Dinners for Week of July 23rd

  • Monday- Chicken Fajitas + Black Beans
  • Tuesday- Pesto Salmon + Asparagus and Couscous
  • Wednesday- Coconut Chicken + Green Beans and Rice
  • Thursday- Spicy Turkey Burgers + Sweet Potato Wedges
  • Friday- Leftovers
  • Saturday and Sunday- out of town

I then spend time on the Publix website seeing their deals. I don’t have a printer at my house so right now printable coupons haven’t been an option, although I may try hooking my laptop up to one at Fedex next week to print some out. It seems worth it for all the coupons out there!

Once I figure out the Buy 1 Get 1 deals and sales for the week, I split my groceries into sections of the grocery store for easier maneuvering once inside. South Florida groceries are slow moving, so I like to make a plan!

Groceries Needed:

I split up my grocery shopping between two stores: Stiles Farmer’s Market & Publix.

At Stiles Farmers Market I bought all of the produce except for Asparagus and Spinach for $15.00. They have the best deals on produce ever.

 
 

At Publix I bought the remaining food items for $78.00.

 
 

Publix had their Olive Oil for Buy 1 Get 1 Free so I added that to my list when I got to the store.

Here are my grocery lists and receipts:

Publix Total: $78.28
 

My goal this week was to spend below $100 which is $50/person. While this may seem like a lot to some, if you break it down to 7 days a week and 3 meals a day, it’s less than $3/per person a meal. This isn’t including snacks. With some planning and not too much time, I spent $94.00 total on groceries for the week.

**Some ingredients I already had in my cabinets or refrigerator such as milk and onions.

 
Deal Saving Tips
  • Buy 1 Get 1 deals are great for foods that you eat but don’t buy something just because it’s on sale.
  • When certain items are on sale, buy extra and freeze them. For example, I buy extra bread, milk and meat when it’s on sale and freeze it.
  • Check the pricing labels per ounce- you may think the store brand is cheaper but check the price/ounce before you buy.
  • I can’t afford most Organic products but I wash all my produce with a homemade cleaner (baking soda, lemon juice and water) that gets rid of pesticides and bacteria.

I had mine without tortillas and Darin used the Ezekiel Bread Tortillas we love so much.
